The importance of a tidy desk is supposed to help the mind to process the actions of the day clearer. The fact that it makes the office look tidy and it confirms that all information, whether it be personal or not, is safely out of sight which is good for security reasons. Apparently there is a school of thought that ‘a messy desk means a clear mind’.
